Christmas Paper Craft Ideas: Sour Cream Containers
Christmas Paper Craft Ideas
Looking for Christmas paper craft ideas? How about a Christmas sour cream container? They are called sour cream containers because they are the same shape container that Wendy’s used to give out their sour cream in back in the nineties. Best of all they are quick and easy to create . . . and unlike some things, fun. They are perfect for giving little treats or jewelry . . . or even better, both!
All you’ll need to make these is some scrapbook paper and super sticky double sided tape.
Here are some great choices.
Fancy Pants Merry Little Christmas 12×12 Pad
Echo Park Reflections Christmas Collection
This is the double sided tape that I always use. We crafters call it redline.
I lucked out and the paper I used was from a precut pad that measured 4 1/2″ x 6 1/2″. These aren’t very common. If you go with 12″ x 12″ paper (this is the size most scrapbook paper comes in) then I would suggest making each 4″ x 6″. This means you’ll get six sour cream containers from each piece of paper.
Here’s how to make them.
Here’s a little tip. When creating these you don’t want the seam to line up with a crease. I know that probably doesn’t make a lot of sense so here’s a picture that should make more sense.
Everyone I’ve ever given these to has loved them. From little kids to grown ups. After they stop gushing over how cute they are and asking how on earth you made them the next question you’ll get is, “how do I get the candy out?” When you tell them they have to tear it open you’ll probably hear, “but it’s so pretty, I don’t want to tear it open.” Remember it’s just paper, tell them to have fun and get to it.
Once you’ve created the basic container you can embellish it further if you like. Add other papers, ribbon or washi tape to the ends. A stamped image or sticker to the middle. A small gift tag is also a nice touch. My degree of embellishment usually depends on how much time I have.
I’m new to washi tape, but it’s everywhere and really makes embellishing quick. It’s basically just tape with a design on it. Here are a couple good choices for this project.

Don’t have any Christmas appropriate scrapbook paper laying around? You can always stamp plain paper. That’s what I did on the vanilla colored one. Then I added washi tape to the ends. I am really pleased with how it turned out.
These are also perfect for Valentine’s Day and Halloween. Really they are so versatile you can use them for just about any occasion.
