DIY Twinkie Frankenstein

The kids (and probably many adults) are going to LOVE the DIY Twinkie Frankenstein Recipe! These are so fun and cute! And let’s face it, Frankenstein is one of the original faces of Halloween. My son dressed up for Halloween as Frankenstein a couple of years ago so he loved helping make these treats. A twinkie, covered in melted candy and a marshmallow nose….you really can’t go wrong!

DIY Twinkie Frankenstein Recipe

Prep Time 1 hour 30 minutes
Cook Time 5 minutes
Total Time 1 hour 35 minutes
Course Dessert
Servings 6

Ingredients

  • 12 oz of green melting chips
  • 4 oz of black melting chips
  • 1 red melting chip or one small tube (that has a very small tip) of red icing.
  • 6 Twinkies
  • 12 candy eye decorations

Instructions

  • Place Twinkies in freezer for at least 30 minutes.
  • Prepare a baking sheet or cutting board by covering with parchment or wax paper.
  • Melt green candy chips by microwaving for 30 seconds, stirring and repeating until melted.
  • Dip each Twinkie in green chocolate and roll to completely coat. Then, transfer to prepared paper.
  • Using a toothpick, spear a mini marshmallow and dip in green chocolate to cover completely.
  • Position the marshmallow in the middle of the Twinkie to make a nose. Use another toothpick to loosen the marshmallow from the first toothpick and to smooth out chocolate.
  • Using chocolate as "glue", set 2 eyes just above the nose.
  • Place the baking sheet in the refrigerator for 10 minutes to set.
  • Lift each Twinkie to separate from paper. Then use a knife to carefully trim excess chocolate from the edges that ran off.
  • Melt black candy chips by microwaving 30 seconds, stirring and repeating until melted.
  • Dip top of each Twinkie in black chocolate to make hair.
  • Return to prepared paper.
  • Using the toothpick method from before, dip 8 mini marshmallows in black chocolate to coat completely and place on prepared paper to use as neck bolts.
  • Place the baking sheet back in the refrigerator for 5 minutes to set. Then trim any excess chocolate that ran off.
  • Using chocolate as glue attach neck bolts to sides of Twinkies.
  • Take the one red chip and heat for 30-60 seconds until melted.
  • Using a toothpick, draw a mouth with the red chocolate on each Twinkie and draw the forehead scar.
  • Place completed Frankensteins back in refrigerator for 10 minutes to set.
