Homemade Chocolate Donuts with Peppermint Glaze

  • Donuts:
  • 1 cup of flour
  • ¼ cup of sugar
  • ¼ cup of brown sugar
  • ¼ cup of cocoa powder
  • ½ tsp of baking powder
  • ½ tsp of baking soda
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup of buttermilk
  • ¼ cup of vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp of vanilla
  • Glaze:
  • 2 cups of powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of milk
  • ¼ tsp of peppermint extract
  • 15 peppermint disks or canes
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and spray a donut pan with cooking spray.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together all of the dry ingredients for the donuts.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together all of the wet ingredients.
  4. Fold wet ingredients into dry just until incorporated.
  5. Use a funnel to transfer the batter into the donut pan until ⅔ full.
  6. Bake 11-14 minutes until springy and a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.
  7. Allow donuts to cool in pan for 10-15 minutes
  8. Place peppermint candy in a food processor and pulse until crushed.
  9. Combine glaze ingredients and mix until smooth.
  10. Dip the top of the donuts in the glaze and place on a wire rack to cool.
  11. After glaze has set, dip a second time and dust with crushed peppermint candy.
