FrogTape® Shape Tape™ Upscale Furniture Project idea

Frog Tape Furniture Upscale project I have a table that sits outside on my patio that has a wood top with an wrought iron base. I love this table. It’s a bit ugly on the top but I still can’t seem to part with it. When I first learned about FrogTape® Shape Tape™ I just knew I could do something really simple to give this little table a spark of new life.

FrogTape® Shape Tape™ comes in three different patterns: Chevron, Wave and Scallop! This project was completed with the scallop pattern. I also used some outdoor acrylic patio paint so that it would last a bit longer in the weathered conditions. I’m not the type of person that likes for everything to look perfect or measured so I wasn’t exactly sure how this project would pan out or how hard it would be. I grabbed my supplies and dug right in! I started by cutting strips of my FrogTape Shape Tape to the length of the tabletop I was working on.

The wood service was a bit rough on this table top and I didn’t even bother sanding it. I thought the rustic look gave it some character so I left it like it is. I wasn’t sure how the tape would hold up over the ridges though. It’s designed with a slit liner on the back of the tape for easier application – remove one half of the liner, position the tape and remove the other half as seen in this photo below. Having this split tape makes it really easy to place the tape exactly the way you want it without it sticking to your fingers.

Now place all the strips in the design you want them.   I just eyeballed it.  I didn’t even bother measuring it.

I didn’t plan to have my design continue around the edges but it was really nice to see that I could easily do that if I wanted too!

Now for the painting part! Man, this project was going really, really fast! It only took me about five minutes to cut the strips of FrogTape® Shape Tape™ and stick them to my table top. I added two layers of paint because the wood was so dry it really sucked it up.

Now it’s time to peal of the paint and reveal the wood part. This part makes me nervous because I’ve so many other projects fail because the tape didn’t hold up on the edges.  Make sure to allow enough time for your paint to dry completely before you begin peeling it off.

WHOA!  This tape works GREAT!!!! Why does this tape work amazingly well??

I learned that Shape Tape™ is treated with patented PaintBlock® Technology, a super absorbent polymer that reacts with the water in latex paint and instantly gels to form a micro-barrier that seals the edges of the tape, which helps prevent paint bleed. It held up nicely too even with those bumps and ridges! I’m impressed!

You can find Shape Tape™ at participating Lowes and Walmart locations, and all Menards stores across the United States. Users should visit http://frogtape.com/shapetape for more information.

What do you think?   Beautiful?  I could have added a different color but I love this aqua color against the raw wood.  I LOVE IT!

I already know that I’m going to purchase the chevron and wave patterns!  I have plenty of project ideas in my daughters bedroom that I can do.  I’m totally thinking of a chevron desk!  What do you think?  Do you think that would be cute?
