How to Make Playdoh
How to Make Playdoh
I’m about to show you how to make playdoh. It’s super simple and you can even flavor it any flavor or color you want with a few different products.
I absolutely love to sit down with my kids and play with playdoh. I mean, who doesn’t… right?! I started getting a bit crafty on our playdoh and decided to make my very own. Below we will give you a gingerbread playdoh recipe and a peppermint playdoh recipe. Feel free to experiment with different extracts, seasonings and colors to come up with your own favorite blend too.
We especially love making playdoh around the holidays and including some of the holiday scents and flavors! Here we made a peppermint playdoh and a gingerbread playdoh. Oh it smells so good! It’s so much fun to play with too! These make amazing gifts too. We’ve included some simple Playdoh labels here.
Ingredients needed for Homemade Playdoh:
1 cup Flour
2 tsp Cream of Tartar
1/2 cup Salt
1 cup Water
1 1/2 tbsp Vegetable Oil
Food Coloring (optional)
Directions for Homemade Playdoh:
In a Medium Sized Pan whisk together your Flour, Salt and Cream of Tartar
Add Water and Oil
Add Food Coloring (optional but fun, the kids love this part)
Whisk until you have a smooth consistency with no lumps
Place your pan over low heat and stir constantly until your mixture thickens. This will take 3-5 minutes and you will need a strong arm. When you have a big ball/lump, your playdoh is finished
Knead your dough for a minute or two
Store in a Sealed container
Gingerbread Scented Playdoh
Just add these ingredients into the above dry ingredients
1 1/2 tsp Ginger
2 tsp Cinnamon
1/2 tsp Cloves
1/2 tsp Nutmeg
Add 1/2 tsp Vanilla and blue, yellow and red food coloring into the wet ingredients until you have a brown color before placing on heat.
Peppermint Scented Playdoh
Just add 1/2 tsp peppermint extract and red food coloring into the above wet ingredients before placing on heat.
You can change this recipe up with the colors and scents you love. Next we plan to try Lemon Playdoh by adding lemon extract.
We made some to give as gifts too. Just look at how cute these homemade gifts are. You can a small ribbon or twine piece and include a cookie cutter to complete this gift idea. It’s fairly inexpensive and super fun to make. We made sure to put the playdoh in air tight containers so it won’t dry out.
Where did you find those small airtight containers? Thanks!
